How we work

At Scout, we do things differently. We go where others haven't to discover new things. We visualise your environmental data to make it easy for you to see the bigger picture, giving you clear direction on the value of your biodiversity and how to manage it.

We set the benchmark for high resolution and spatially accurate mapping. We explore coastal, mountain, and western landscapes across wetlands, heath, dry and wet sclerophyll forests, rainforest to arid shrublands. We work all across Australia and always seek to unlock knowledge about landscapes through strong client relationships, research, field survey and mapping approaches.

Technology like virtual reality, 3D mapping, drones and high resolution imagery is used on every project to deliver best in class maps. This allows us to work more efficiently, makes your life easier and drives better project outcomes.

What we do

  • Vegetation Mapping (Plant Community Types, Regional Ecosystems, Ecological Vegetation Classes, Vegetation Associations or Vegetation Communities) at an appropriate scale for your project using the latest 3D/stereo, high resolution aerial photography, or satellite imagery paired with digital elevation models. We also undertake complex spatial analysis including habitat modelling and connectivity analyses.
  • Biodiversity Assessment anywhere in NSW, including all aspects of the BAM from developments (BDAR), stewardship sites (BSSAR) or biodiversity certification (BCAR). We provide specialist strategic advice on project feasibility.
  • Specialist training and advisory in NSW Biodiversity Assessment.
  • Digital data capture, storage and analysis development.

We have assessed developments, major projects, offsets and biodiversity certification areas. Our staff have been accredited to apply Government mandated assessment approaches since 2008. We know the Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) inside and out. We know what is inside the little black box. Our job is to make complex legislation simple. We know credits and the state of the offset market. We're upfront about what's possible so there's no surprises.

We know the system and seek to ensure the true value of biodiversity is realised. We prioritise the conservation of high biodiversity values and we're pragmatic, clearly identifying land which has been degraded. We know what can be restored, or what is too far gone. We understand connectivity and patch size dynamics and the importance of vegetation in urban landscapes.

At Scout, we will always seek the best project and environmental outcomes and only work with like minded clients. We are humbled by how much we have to learn about the wild landscapes around us. This is why we love what we do.
